This year, our children are going through so much; transitions, struggles, lack of motivation, and disconnectedness are added to their ongoing plight during these unprecedented times. LEAD listens to and connects with our students. Despite all of the obstacles, setbacks, and circumstances, Keira shared
“Because of LEAD, I believe my dreams are worth dreaming.”
Her uplifting words add to the memories and stories that we’ve made together this year.
We continue to support students in the classroom, virtually, on Saturdays, and during the summer.
Most importantly, we listened to, laughed with, motivated, and inspired youth to create and hold on to a vision. We created novel ways for LEADers to engage, share, and interact, closing our year out with a "Virtual Movie Night". The LEAD Team delivered treat bags filled with hot cocoa, popcorn, and treats as LEAD families gathered to watch "A Christmas Carol", performed by Alley Theater.
Additionally, we were able to support the needs of our student LEADers in numerous ways. Because of you…
- We closed the digital divide and provided technology to underserved youth.
- We delivered meals to doorsteps, fed 500 families in a drive thru food distribution, and made sure that families had food in their pantries and fresh produce in their kitchens.
- We taught life skills and continued to extend their learning with new experiences.
- We created and delivered virtual summer and Saturday opportunities.
- Youth started building their personal home libraries with new books, and LEAD held book clubs to create a world of wonder and escape.
- Mental health support was offered to those in need.
We are committed to Letting Everyone Achieve Dreams, and it’s your support that allows us to help Houston’s most underserved middle school students. Thank you. Your support makes a difference in our community, and it means so much to us.
