LEADers gathered to engage in encouraging conversations and meaningful goal-setting before returning to school. A few amazing partners and volunteers made our back-to-school session super fun!

CUTS & CONVERSATION

Thanks to our friends at Chophouse Barber Company, our male LEADers are heading into the school year with a fresh new look. The gracious barbers opened their doors to LEAD and offered complimentary haircuts and products. The students ate well and enjoyed delicious food prepared by Fajita Pete’s.

LEADers chopped it up by engaging in meaningful conversation about the upcoming school year. A rising 8th grader shared his frustration with being labeled “the bad kid.” Our talented barbers and community volunteers shared their own inspiring stories and provided guidance. They charged our LEADers to make intentional steps towards becoming successful men.

GOALS & GLOSS

Sounds and expressions of joy reminded us of the importance of socialization - especially during adolescence. Our female LEADers gathered and giggled as they reminisced about Camp LEAD 2021. During our time together, the girls set healthy and attainable goals for the year ahead. Whole Foods supported our initiative by taking us on a store tour and exposing us to new choices.

In addition to being inspired by community volunteers, LEADers are encouraged to reflect upon their own passion and purpose. One of our student LEADers created her own lip-gloss line. Semaj, Founder of Sceija Beauty, shared her story, struggles, and successes with fellow LEADers this weekend. She demonstrated that her values remain a priority by choosing to only use safe products to create a variety of colors - each inspired by anime characters. We are so proud of Semaj and excited about how our youth will continue to follow their dreams. Each female LEADer received a back-to-school gift and beauty bag that included a tube of Sceija Beauty lip-gloss.
